What is 4-H?

Did you know that 4-H started in Ohio? In 1902, A. B. Graham of Springfield organized the first "Boys' and Girls' Club" of this type. 4-H has kept growing. There are well over 200,000 4-H'ers in Ohio, with members in every county. From Ohio,  4-H has spread to every county in every state across the country!

Over the years, 4-H members have learned many things from their adult advisors or group leaders. 4-H makes learning fun by using "learn-by-doing" activities. Each year, approximately 5,000 youth in Cuyahoga County took part in 4-H programs. They learned about plant science, foods and nutrition, the environment, safety, and careers. 4-H has a summer camp, takes part in the county fair, and has other activities, too.

Look for 4-H in your neighborhood. There may be 4-H clubs at schools, libraries, community centers, or churches near your home. To find out more about 4-H, call 216-429-8200. 4-H is sponsored by Ohio State University Extension. It is open to all young people, without regard to race, color, national origin, sex, handicap, or religion.
